Sustainability at Volvo

As a mobility provider, Volvo recognises that they have been part of the problem of climate change and have a responsibility to act. Sustainability is as important to Volvo Cars as safety. By working towards net zero, embracing the circular economy and conducting their business operations responsibly, they are on a mission to help protect the planet and improve people’s lives. By reducing emissions across their entire value chain, they are aiming to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. As an interim step towards their 2040 target, by 2030 their ambition is to have reduced CO₂ emissions per car by 65–75 per cent.

The world's natural resources are limited. So, Volvo Cars are aiming towards becoming a circular business by 2040 – minimising their use of primary resources. They're focused on eliminating waste and pollution, making greater use of recycled material, and remanufacturing and reusing parts.

Volvo Cars has been recognised for its sustainability strategy by global environmental non-profit organisation CDP, securing an A-score for its actions aimed at cutting emissions, mitigating climate risks and becoming a climate-neutral company. This places Volvo Cars in the highest tier of CDP’s climate change list, together with only a small number of companies. Almost 23,000 companies participated by disclosing data on their environmental impacts, risks and opportunities, and Volvo Cars’ high score reflects its position as a leader in environmental ambition and climate action.
